ACDC, Pearl Jam & U2 Concerts – QSAC

Along with regular school and regional athletics carnivals, QSAC has recently sort to attract various concerts and events to increase revenue streams and utilise the facility in a way that benefits the community. QCS has worked closely with Venue management to achieve a F&B service that is capable of servicing the large number of patrons in a relatively short period of time.

In 2010 the venue hosted headline artists AC/DC & Pearl Jam, with our commitment to assisting the venue achieve the best possible result, we bumped in an additional 18 food outlets and a further 22 bars, this along with existing infrastructure totaled 61 retail outlets. With the QCS supplied infrastructure and an adequate staff ratio of 650+ staff, we were able to serve over 200 patrons per minute.

This resulted in what was the highest per head spend at any venue of the AC/DC Australian Tour, not only this we also provided the widest ranging quality menu, with limited waiting time, resulting in all patrons going home happy and we receive thanks from the promoter for a job well done.

The forecasted attendance by the RAAF over the two day period was 50,000 however the actual attendance was upwards of 90,000 with temperatures almost reaching 40oC.

Naturally this created major logistical challenges requiring overnight restocking of 2,500 cartons of water and soft drinks, major resupply of bread products, frozen goods and snack products and a further 15,000 ice cream products to name just a few! However by 6.30am on the second day all catering stock was received and in place including the chilling of drinks.

NRL & AFL Fixtures – Carrara Stadium

Prior to the redevelopment, Carrara stadium incorporated 16,000 GA seats with a further 2,500 pax in corporate function rooms, suites and boxes. QCS was the official caterer at the stadium from 2005 until the stadiums closure for redevelopment at the end of the 2009 season.

Over this period Carrara Stadium was managed by Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) with their principal tenant being AFL Gold Coast who hosted between 4 and 6 AFL national games per annum. In addition to these games, Carrara Stadium was also host to a full season of home games for the Gold Coast Titans (12 games) until their move to Skilled Stadium, Robina. Over the period the venue also hosted various local sporting events.

At the outset of the Contract with the Gold Coast City Council, QCS worked closely with the GCCC to develop the stadiums F&B capabilities from a local sporting facility, into a stadium capable of hosting National sporting fixtures. Initially playing host to the NRL though the GC Titans before the eventual goal of becoming home to the GC AFL now known as the Suns.

We believe that our investment and endeavours in these initial stages significantly lifted the standards and profile of the previously tarnished F&B image of the stadium and provided assistance to the GCCC in being able to offer facilities that helped attract major tenets.

Ultimately, we are proud to have been involved at the very start of groundswell that eventually became the GCFC and believe our commitment to achieve the common goals of the GCCC and GC AFL have been mutually beneficial and assisted their successes so far.

Although, event attendances have dropped off at QR in recent years, in its heyday crowds were in excess of 40,000 with corporate marquees lining the track hosting over 5,000 guests.

QCS managed the full logistical elements that included bumping in field kitchens and mobile catering outlets to efficiently manage the crowd and corporate requirements, this included everything right down to power and potable water which are not readily available at the venue.

Winternationals – Willowbank Raceway

The home of Queensland Drag Racing, Willowbank Raceway is located north of Ipswich, and hosts up to 42 events per annum with an annual attendance in excess of 240,000. Major races like the Winter National Finals attract up to 65,000.

QCS’ contract with Willowbank Raceway began in 1989 encompassing all corporate and retail catering. The length of tenure is a reflection of QCS’ ability to build long standing relationships and provide a service that is beneficial to the venue.

The raceway is operated by a not-for-profit organisation and QCS has worked closely with the committee to achieve their priority of customer satisfaction and reduced retail prices. Although this goal is offset by slightly lower royalty percentages, QCS needs to constantly develop the retail catering as to increase the per capita spend in ways that don’t include increasing the retail prices.

We achieve this by providing the best possible quality and service with a wide range of products that are relative to the demands of the patrons over a day period, including breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner meals, desserts and cafe lines.
